Huh, guess I'm still alive.

In an effort to make up for my extended absence, I return to you all bearing exciting news for those interested in video game development. For everyone else who might be wondering when I'll finally get around to posting some more art, the answer is that it is on its way.

If you're interested in pursuing a career in the video game industry, then I have something to say that may interest you. A little over a month ago, I participated in a Game Jam event wherein I and 3 others began created a  Smash Bros. shmup over the course of a weekend (which you can download and play here). We've done the bulk of the work and are looking to finish the game so that we may eventually sell it off. However, as the sole artist on the team, I will be in need of some assistance. If the prospect of working on a game with me interests you, have a gander at the application criteria below. Don't worry if you're not interested in doing everything listed or don't meet all the criteria:

Some of the things that you can expect to do:
:bulletblack: 2D Animation. ****ANIMATORS WILL BE GIVEN TOP PRIORITY****
:bulletblack: Space ship, character, and level designs.
:bulletblack: Character and game story and background information.
:bulletblack: Very, very little 3D animation.

... and more!

Artist criteria:
:bulletblack: Must be at least 21 years old. Must be highly motivated and mature - we're not looking for kids, we want people dedicated to working towards a common goal. ****OBLIGATORY****
:bulletblack: The team lives in or near Montreal, Quebec area. We will mostly communicate via Skype but there will be times when we will have to physically meet. If you cannot meet the team, you cannot be a part of it. ****OBLIGATORY****
:bulletblack: Must be able to work with 2D sprites. If you've had the change to play the game, you'll know the game's art is 95% sprite-based. Furthermore, you'll need to keep up with the visual style I started.

So there you have it. If any of this suits your fancy, hit me up with a message. Tell your friends, tell anyone who might want to get involved. Heck, even if you're not interested, talk to me. It's been a while so we're sure to have some catching up to do :aww:
  • Listening to: Don't Fear the Reaper
  • Reading: Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
  • Watching: Kill La Kill
  • Playing: Tales of Xillia, WWF No Mercy, Bravely Default
  • Eating: Chocolate Chip Brownies

Aye, I've been doing very good, thanks. I've just been neglecting my DA account to focus on other things (game development, drawing, etc.).

I saw your work with Famitracker and it's really good! Tell me, do you have an aptitude for music? I haven't tried it but the interface looks a little intimidating for someone like myself who is more accustomed to FL Studio and Window's Midi Maker Studio '95 ^^;

Aptitude for music? :la: That's a very grand compliment, thank you! Though, I admit I have not taken any bit of music theory (just your typical grade-school music classes and middle-school band class). ^^;
Almost everyone in my family though has played an instrument or even use it for their career (clarinet for me, trying to mess around with piano, not a career). I just go by what I hear and think what sounds okay... so maybe I'm teaching myself subconsciously?

The interface took a little bit of time to get use to, but it's not that hard to learn. It is your standard scroll-based bar notes. Just mess around with the program, look at tutorials (one takes you through the process of making Megaman 2's Doctor Wily stage theme), check the help section and effects page, and also look at the included demos for what tricks people use. It does a pretty good job emulating NES 8-bit.

And I'm glad to see you are feeling well.

Oh yeah, have you heard of Mighty No. 9 and Shantae: HGH? :D

Actually, I've been the one telling others about Mighty No. 9, even managing to convince my boss at work to support it. Shantae, on the other hand, is not so important in my eyes. Other than it being developed by Wayforward, I have no interest in the project. While you can always count on them to produce beautiful animation and great music that compliments the action onscreen, the gameplay of their games can be a little shallow and unpolished.

Of course, just these 2 games have cast a mighty large shadow onto all other game projects on Kickstarter. (including my own studio's, sadly ^^;)

Ahh, excellent. :mwahaha:

Oh yeah, after you mentioned Mega Man X in the note, I looked up its intro stage (with egorapter explaining it also :D) and yikes... it's almost exactly how I'm making my game. That's crazy.

...Perhaps my game is looking too Megaman-ish.

2D Running and gunning is not unique to Megaman, although it may very well be the ultimate example. Still, if you're worried about being labeled a copycat, ensure that you come up with something to differentiate it. Of course, that's easier said than done.
