I'm gearing up to do a new version of my animation demo reel and noticed a lack of facial animations. I went through 3 other failed attempts (with completely different audio) before I was satisfied with this, though I've still got a bit more work to do on this before it is truly demo-worthy.
For those who don't know, the audio is from The Mask. I mostly followed Jim Carrey's performance as my reference, though I reduced a lot of his head movement. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love doing cartoony movements. Carrey's just a little too much, especially at this point in his career where every performance he gave was so ridiculously over-the-top he'd make Warner Bros. blush with envy.
On another note, does anybody know if he's referencing anything here? The closest I can guess is possibly the movie The Fugitive which only came out a few months prior to The Mask's release, but even that seems a little far-fetched to me.
Funny you should say that - I used to hear rumors that LowMax here was made by a Pixar rigger. In truth, the guy who built this rig is actually a cinematic animator over at Blizzard, last I checked.
